About RyazanRyazan is a city in Central Russia federal district, the administrative center of the Ryazan Oblast. It is located on the Oka River 196 km south-east of Moscow, at 54°36? N 39°42? E.
Population: 521,700 (census 2002). Ryazan's location and infrastructure are well suited for companies wanting to distribute goods in the Moscow region and beyond. The city offers large, well equipped warehousing facilities at a fraction of the storage costs found in the Russian capital. It is also the home to more than 30 large enterprises, including an oil refinery, a food processing plant, and an automotive component factory. The local market offers many opportunities for development in the consumer and service sectors. The food industry, for example, is looking to increase the output of canned fruits, vegetables, meat and dairy products. Opportunities also exist in the defense conversion, fuel and energy, and construction sectors. The Ryazan Oblast Government has developed a list of potential investment and business projects in the city and the region. The Ryazan Oblast is known for its production of petroleum products, precision instruments, radio electronics, textiles, and footwear. The oblast's wood-working and chemical enterprises specialize in the manufacture of mineral fertilizers and chemical products. There are also large deposits of high-quality peat for production of fertilizer in the area, in addition to cement limestone, glass and quartz sands, and other mineral resources. The region's skilled workforce is supplemented by five higher education and research institutes and 31 technical and vocational schools. |
